Yesterday was the first hearing for Zaruhi's case who was savagely beaten by her husband. The coalition to stop violence against women in Armenia initiated a picket action in front of the court house to remind everyone that a fair and just trial is expected for Zaruhi and the criminal case will be monitored by the local NGOs who are part of the coalition. For photos and video of the Action, please see link on the right side of this site. During this first hearing, witnesses gave their testimony on the case, among them, Zaruhi's sister and her best friend. The husband, Yannis delayed a little the hearing insisting on not being photographed and refusing to talk and answer questions in front of so many citizens present in the court house. The judge did not take into account the complaints voiced by the husband and continued the session as planned.
The next hearing is scheduled for the 28th of March. If you are interested to take part in the actions organized by the coalition please write to csvwarmenia@gmail.com
